WEATHER SIRENS

At the regular city council meeting held on January 3, 2012, Mayor Lowe called upon Fire Chief Johnny Howard, Jr., and Police Chief Lamar Vick to present facts relating to the severe weather incident that occurred in the city on December 22nd.  Mayor Lowe  directed that a meeting be held on January 17th, immediately following the regular council meeting.  Mayor Lowe further directed that Chief Howard, Chief Vick, and Public Safety Committee Chairman Handley would be responsible for gathering necessary information from persons and organizations with relevant expertise to be presented during that meeting for the purposes of reviewing and revising the current city policy regarding the activation of the outdoor warning sirens.  Following comments from the mayor and council, the public was invited to make comments.  Two members of the public addressed the council.  Following these remarks, the meeting was adjourned.

Note:  The meeting following the January 17th council meeting will be open to the public, and all interested people are welcome to attend.  However, this meeting will not be a public hearing.  This will be a council work session at which the public is invited to observe the proceedings, but public comments will not be solicited.
