Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of nine (9) members including the Mayor or his/her designee, an administrative officer of the municipality chosen by the Mayor, one member of the City Council, chosen by the council and six (6) members at large, appointed by the Mayor, Municipal officials (Mayor, administrative officer and City Council member) serve until their term of office expire. The six members at large serve six (6) year staggered terms.  The Commission meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at City Hall.

Comprehensive planning is a process that determines community goals and aspirations in terms of community development. The result is called a comprehensive plan and both expresses and regulates public policies on transportation, utilities, land use, recreation, and housing. Comprehensive plans typically encompass large geographical areas, a broad range of topics, and cover a long-term time horizon.  The City of Columbiana updated their comprehensive plan in 2016.
